Monday Musings | Reading Habits #2

Happy Monday, everyone! Now that Armchair BEA and my vacation is over, I’m back to my regular posting schedule which means I’m coming at you with a Monday Musings post! The last time I talked about reading habits, I asked how many books you normally read at once. Funnily, at that time, I was a one book at a time sort of reader but now I have multiple books going at once! I’m not sure exactly what changed but I think a slumpy reading month last month might have spurred it. It’s kind of interesting to see how our reading habits evolve and change though, isn’t it?

This week I want to know where you read. What’s your favourite reading spot? As I mentioned in one of my Liebster Award posts, my favourite reading spot as a kid was in my kitchen, in the corner between the wall and the fridge. It was an odd place, I’ll admit, but it was so cozy and comforting to read there. Now that I’m in a new place, I think my favourite place to read is in my bed or on my commute. I’m not a huge fan of reading in coffee shops for some reason, though maybe that will change too 😉

How about you? Do you like reading in coffee shops/libraries/other public places? Or do you read snuggled in bed or on the couch? Do you have a favourite reading nook?

I don’t really have a favourite reading spot, I like to read everywhere! My most frequent spot for reading seems to be at the kitchen table though. I think it started when I was young and I would sit at the table with my Mom and we would both read. I also like to read while I am eating, so the kitchen table is the most natural place for that. After that would be in bed, I end every day with reading in bed, usually until my eyes close and the book falls on my face (which isn’t a pleasant experience if I am reading my Kobo). My husband has removed a book from my hands many times at night, lol. Finally, I do love to read outside on my deck, but that can only happen a few months out of the year, unless I get out there in my parka and mitts!

I could see how reading at a kitchen table could be comforting! That sounds like an awesome place to read! And I agree with you about reading in bed… it’s simply one of the best places to read if you can keep your eyes open! 😉

I usually read on my couch, though I do enjoy reading at the library as well. I would like to read outside in nice weather, only chances are there’s too much else going on to distract me (since, if it’s nice weather, other people are out enjoying it too). Plus, you know, bugs.

When I was a kid, one of my favorite spots to read was on the stairs in our house. There were like two steps, and then two wedge-shaped steps to turn the corner, and then the stairs continued up to the second floor. I liked reading in that corner because I could sit, I could lie, I lean… there were just so many options to get comfy, all without leaving that spot.

Haha yes! Bugs (and BEES) would be total distractions! I think reading on the beach would be a great compromise 😉

Those stairs sound like a great reading spot! Funny to think how unconventionally comfy spots turn out to be the best, eh?

I have a hard time reading when there’s other stuff going on around me, so that rules out public places. At home, my favourite spot to read is probably my little antique sofa that used to belong to my grandmother. It is situated between two windows, so there is a lot of light during the day, and a lamp right next to it at night.

My very best spot, though, is at our favourite campground on a peaceful afternoon, facing the trees and the lake. But that only happens for two weeks out the year.

I read the most on the bus but I prefer to read almost anywhere else: in bed, on the couch, in the bath. My very favourite place to read is at my in-laws house, either in the lazy boy in the corner of the kitchen, or an Adirondack chair in the garden!

Nice! I love reading on my commute too! I don’t know what it is about it but it’s just so comforting. You sound like you have some amazing reading spots!

I love reading on my bed, the only problem with that is I promptly fall asleep. So when I don’t want to sleep, my favorite place to read is my reading chair overlooking the backyard.

I read everywhere because I’ll take any chance I can get to squeeze in a few more chapters. I keep saying I’m going to read outside more now that we have nice weather, but that hasn’t happened yet.
