December 2014

2014 December Reads One More Page Blog

Books read:

*Little White Lies by Katie Dale
*Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller
*All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
*Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer
*Through the Woods by Emily Carroll
*Yes Please by Amy Poehler

It’s a little odd to be writing about December 2014 when the new year just started, but I didn’t get to my resolution to plan my posts better until a few days ago so let’s pretend this isn’t misplaced. 😉

December went by in a flash for me. Surprisingly, even with the running around and holiday festivities, I was able to keep my average of reading 6 books this month. These were a really strong group of books for me and I enjoyed them all in different ways. However, I will say that Yes Please was one of my top reads this month. Not only was it a perfect Christmas present, it was also a funny and inspiring read for the holidays. If you’re a fan of Amy Poehler, you’ll definitely want to give this a go!

Blogging wise, I slacked quite a bit this month. I’m hoping that January means a new start; I can’t wait to begin.

How was your December and holiday season? Did you discover any new favourites? What was your favourite book of 2014? (I have no idea what my answer for this would be – it’s too hard to choose!)

My True Love Gave To Me Holiday Stories Book Cover

Happy December everyone! I’ve always been a huge Christmas person (snow, cozy sweaters, and delicious treats – what’s not to love?) and this year is no different. Now that my house ban on Christmas music before December 1st has lifted (not my rule), I’ve been listening to holiday songs ALL DAY and I’m feeling pretty excited to deck the halls and celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. I even heard a little girl singing “Let it Go” from Frozen aloud on the bus on my way home, further validating the fact that it is officially time to go full-fledged CHRISTMAS MODE.

Anyway, with all of this Christmas talk, I’ve also been trying to get into the spirit with my reading. I picked up My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories a few weeks ago, but I’m sad to say that I’ve been underwhelmed so far. However, this holiday read has me wondering if there are any Christmassy books on my shelf that I should re-read this month. Even though I’m a Christmas person, I have to say that I don’t really have any must-read books for the season. The only Christmas-related book I can think of that’s on my shelf right now is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens but I’m sure there must be more…

Are you excited about the upcoming holidays or do Christmas people like me make you go “bah humbug”? Do you have any annual Christmas reads or rituals? Please share them with me as I’d love to start building a Christmas library. 🙂

Ps. I promise I’ll tone down the Christmas enthusiasm in my next post. Maybe. I’ll try my best.
