I’m doing it! After watching everyone have so much fun during the last Bout of Books readathon, I’ve decided that I’m going to join in on the fun this time around! New to Bout of Books like me? Here’s what it’s all about:
“The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team”
Sounds like fun, right?
I’m not really sure how realistic my goals are, but I’m hoping to get a bunch of books read during this readathon. These are all books that I’ve been looking forward to reading, so I’m excited to give them a go! The books on my (tentative) TBR are:
*The Death of Us by Alice Kuipers
*The Giver by Lois Lowry
*A Girl is a Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride
*The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
*My Salinger Year by Joanna Rakoff
*Based on a True Story by Elizabeth Renzetti
I’m hoping there’s a good enough mix of young adult/adult/long/short/fiction/non-fiction books in there to keep me entertained all week! As this is my first readathon and as I’m going to be at work for 6 of the 7 readathon days, I’m going to keep my expectations fairly low. My goal is to read as many of these books as I can and really enjoy my first Bout of Books! We all know that the socializing is one of the best parts anyway 😉
So there you go! I’ve officially signed up for Bout of Books 11. Will you be participating too? Are you a newbie like me or are you a Bout of Books pro? Have you read any of the books on my TBR? I can’t wait to talk to everyone!
I haven’t heard about any of those books before. I need to get my nose out of a book clearly. LOL!!! Expand my reading even more. I love doing this read-a-thon! I can’t wait!!! Good Luck!
Haha! I’m definitely excited to visit other blogs and discover new books too!
I’m just about to do my sign-up post 🙂 I’m excited to hear what you think of The Bell Jar. It’s been on my to-read pile for a while just because it’s a classic, but I haven’t read many blogger reviews.
I will definitely keep you posted! I’ve heard really great things about it and I really wanted to read it before reading Meg Wolitzer’s Belzhar. Can’t wait to go read your sign up post! 🙂
Looks like you will have a great pile of books to read this week! I hope you have fun! #readstrong
Thank you! I’ve heard so many good things about these books; I can’t wait to get started!
This sounds fun. I just signed up too!
Yay! Can’t wait to read all of your update posts!!
I think you’re going to rock your goals! After all, you’ve pretty much guaranteed that your first Bout of Books is going to be a success.
Haha I’m a super competitive person, especially with myself so I thought I’d keep it light and expectation-free so I don’t get too out of hand 😉 Thank you for commenting!
I love the giver! Good luck!
Thank you! I’m looking forward to reading it!
AH! Loved Plath’s The Bell Jar. Harrowing. I also liked The Giver… a great YA book my sister taught in her Grade 7 class, a while back. Still, The second book in that series –Gathering Blue– is even better.
I am dying to read A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing! Looking forward to that review.
Happy reading.
Thanks Carole! I can’t believe I haven’t read those books yet but that’s what this readathon is for 😉 I’ve actually already started A Girl is a Half-formed Thing and I’m really liking it so far! There’s a bit of a learning curve to it as it’s written in a really unique stream-of-consciousness way, but once you get the hang of it you can really get into the mind of the narrator. Can’t wait to share my full review when it’s ready 😀
Thanks for your comment!
Hope you enjoy your first readathon, Karen! 🙂 I loved my first BoB 3 years ago and the friends I made then have been my best bookish buddies ever since. I’m sure you’ll love it. Good luck with all your goals and hope you manage to finish all your books!
Here’s what I’ll be reading next week
Vicky
Thanks, Vicky! I’m definitely most excited about all the book talk this week! I’m off to go check out your TBR now!
You have some great books here! I’ve read The Giver multiple times…now I am looking forward to the movie. And The Bell Jar is another one of those books that has stuck with me long after I finished it. Good luck and have fun!
Hearing that the movie was coming out definitely pushed me to read The Giver asap! Have you had a chance to see the movie yet? I’m really looking forward to The Bell Jar as I keep hearing great things about it – I’m glad it was the same for you! Thank you for your comment!
You can do it! Great collection of books you have picked. I look forward to reading your reviews.
Thanks for your encouragement, C.J.! Have you read any of the books on my list? I’m looking forward to sharing my reviews!
You pushed me over the edge. I wasn’t going to do BoB11, and now I am. My TBR pile thanks you.
Yay! I’m so happy that you’re joining. It’s going to be a great week 😀
